Description

String panels are the basis for the entire String shelving system. The String System shelves and other elements can be combined with String side panels in numerous different ways.

Designed by Swedish architect Nils Strinning in 1949, the String System shelving unit stands out for its lightweight structure. This adaptable system can either be mounted on the wall or supported on the floor, tailored to meet individual needs. Easy to assemble from the signature ladder-like side and floor panels combined with shelves of various sizes, drawer units, cabinets, magazine shelves, folding tables, and tabletops, the String System offers endless versatility both horizontally and vertically. Its timeless and minimalist design seamlessly integrates into diverse home and office environments.

Nils Strinning

Swedish architect Nils Strinning (1917–2006) was one of the designers who laid the foundation for what is now widely recognised as Scandinavian style. He rose to international fame in the 1940s with his design of the iconic String shelving system.

String was launched in 1949 as part of a design competition organised by the Swedish publishing house Bonnier, and it quickly became a classic of modern, functional design. Strinning’s work has received numerous accolades, including a gold medal at the Milan Triennale, and the String shelving system remains one of Sweden’s most iconic design exports.
