Fredericia’s The Hunting Chair is a 1950s classic and one of the true icons of Danish furniture design. Created by legendary designer Børge Mogensen, the chair was originally presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild exhibition as part of a collection inspired by the rustic charm of hunting lodges. It also marked the first time Mogensen experimented with combining wood and leather – a move influenced by traditional Spanish chairs.
The result is a striking blend of natural materials and masterful craftsmanship. A carefully crafted solid wood frame, completed with traditional joinery, is paired with a saddle leather seat and backrest, attached using simple metal buckles. The seat’s flexibility can therefore be easily adjusted. The leather softens and gains character with time, becoming even more beautiful as it ages. With its exceptionally low seat height of just around 30 centimetres, the Hunting Chair invites you to lean back, relax and enjoy a level of comfort that’s truly one of a kind.
