Belgian-born fashion designer Ann Demeulemeester (b. 1959) is known as a poet of fashion, with a distinctive aesthetic rooted in dark romanticism, layering, and carefully tailored silhouettes. The Demeulemeester graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and rose to international prominence as part of the legendary Antwerp Six. It was a group of designers who reshaped the fashion landscape in the 1980s. Alongside Demeulemeester, the group included names such as Dirk Van Saene, Marina Yee, and Dries Van Noten.
A dialogue between different art forms lies at the heart of Demeulemeester’s work, drawing inspiration from poetry, music, and the visual arts alike. The result is a collection of timeless clothing and accessories that feel both strong and delicate at the same time, as also recognisable, yet deeply personal.
