Redesigns to Arabia’s Moomin mugs – Little My and Stinky get all new illustrations
Little My and Stinky get new character sets in the Arabia Moomin Classics collection.
THE ARABIA MOOMIN TABLEWARE, based on Moomin creator Tove Jansson’s original drawings, is among the Finnish brand's most popular product lines. The brand first began producing the modern Moomin mugs in the 1990s, and over the years, it has introduced the Moomin tableware sets with dozens of different illustrations. In 2022, Arabia will introduce redesigns to the mugs, bowls, and plates of two beloved characters: Little My and Stinky.
Both character sets feature a mug, bowl, and plate.
Arabia started producing the modern Moomin mugs, which have the same form as Iittala's Teema series, in the 1990s.
The redesigned tableware features a more story-based style of illustration.
The illustrations are based on Tove and Lars Jansson's comic strips. Illustrator and ceramic artist Tove Slotte modifies and composes the elements to suit the tableware.

The Stinky tableware’s redesign is the first-ever since the character illustration launched in 2001, but the Little My ones have been updated many a time before: the new illustration marks the fourth Little My redesign.
In the Little My illustration, the character lies down on a meadow to gaze at a comet approaching Moominvalley.
The new tableware features richer colors and elements that are connected with the narrative background of the illustrations.
Little My remains one of the most popular Moominvalley characters of all time. Many Moomin fans admire the character's bravery and outspokenness.
The Little My set’s illustrations are based on Tove and Lars Jansson’s comic strip story Moomin and the Comet published in 1958. In the story, a comet is drawing closer and closer to Moominvalley, and courageous Little My sets out to investigate the situation with Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden. In the tableware’s illustration, Little My looks at the comet shining bright in the sky and, fearless as she is, calmly lies down on a meadow to watch it approaching.
Stinky is known as a mischievous little creature whose favorite pastimes include pranks, stealing, and causing trouble.
The Stinky illustrations are based on two comic strip stories: “Moomin Begins a New Life” and “Club Life in Moominvalley” from 1956 and 1957, respectively.
The new Stinky set is called “Stinky in Action”, further emphasizing movement and the narrative of the illustration.
The Stinky illustration, in turn, is based on two separate comic strips: Moomin Begins a New Life (1956) and Club Life in Moominvalley (1957). On one side of the mug, Stinky is seen gazing out a window and on the other, saving Moominmamma’s handbag from the paws of a thieving dog. Stinky is known as a mischievous little crook who likes to wreak havoc around Moominvalley – but even he knows not to touch Moominmamma’s handbag.
The renewed Little My and Stinky tableware will be available at Finnish Design Shop this spring.
