Signe Persson‑Melin
Signe Persson-Melin (1925–2022) was a Swedish designer and ceramicist who worked primarily with ceramics and glass. She studied at Konstfack in Stockholm and at the School of Arts and Crafts (Kunsthåndværkerskolen) in Copenhagen, and established her own workshop in Malmö in 1951. Persson-Melin became widely known after exhibiting her ceramic spice jars at the 1955 H55 exhibition, and throughout her career she designed everything from tableware and other household objects to large-scale ceramic works for public spaces.
In addition to running her own workshop, Persson-Melin worked with brands such as Kosta Boda and Rörstrand, and co-founded Boda Nova in 1971. In 1985, she was appointed Sweden’s first professor of glass and ceramic design at Konstfack. Persson-Melin received the prestigious Lunning Prize for design in 1958 and the Prince Eugen Medal in 2001.
