Founded in 1995, minä perhonen manufactures clothing and upholstery fabrics with naive and imaginative prints as well as various design items. The brand name, minä perhonen, is Finnish for “I butterfly”. According to Minagawa, who has named Finland as one of his favorite countries, the name was chosen simply by flicking through a dictionary: “minä” stands for the designer himself, and the word “perhonen”, added later to the name, is a reference to the myriad of patterns adorning a butterfly’s wings – Minagawa’s idea has always been to create fabrics as beautiful and diverse as the wings of a butterfly.
