Description

The Aaro ceiling lamp, designed by Simon Schmitz for DCWéditions, boasts a delicate, unassuming form based on a circle. The shape is repeated in different parts of the luminaire, while also having a significant role in the lamp’s functionality: Aaro turns smoothly around its axis, evoking images of propellers rotating in the wind or planets orbiting in space. The graceful luminaire can be placed, for example, above an armchair or a dining table.

Simon Schmitz is a German lighting designer; in his own words, he is something between a designer, a sculptor and a puppeteer. His luminaires are often based on balance and some sort of mechanical movement – for Schmitz, luminaires are not just functional objects, but sculptures, works of art. Born in Arnsberg, Germany, Schmitz currently lives and works in Hamburg.
