- Notes Clean the surfaces before oil treatment and remember to let the wood dry. Sand down the rough areas with sandpaper. Apply the oil according to the instructions. Allow the oil to dry and harden for 48 hours before exposure to water. Repeat the oiling 1-2 times a year.
