Ritva Puotila

Ritva Puotila (b. 1935) is a Finnish textile designer and the artistic director of the Finnish design brand Woodnotes, which she co-founded with her son Mikko Puotila in 1987. Woodnotes was the first company in the world to incorporate paper yarn in modern functional textiles, and the material remains a defining feature of its collections to this day.

Puotila has created many of Woodnotes' most beloved rug designs, including the San Francisco, Fourways, and Panorama series. Over the years, she has received numerous prestigious awards, such as the Kaj Franck Design Prize, the Finland Prize, the Good Design Award, and the Red Dot Design Award. In 2001, she was named Finnish Textile Artist of the Year. Her work is featured in the collections of leading museums around the world, including the Architecture and Design Collection at MoMA.
