The Belgian born Astrid Sylwan is a visual artist who now lives in Sweden and was brought to Marimekko when artistic director, Minna Kemell-Kutvonen saw her work in a Swedish interior design magazine. Co-operation resulted in three works including Vattenblänk, which came into Marimekko’s production. Sylwan’s works are characterized by strong colors and a clear post-painting, reflected well in the Vattenblänk pattern.
