Description

The Kesäkukka napkin by Lapuan Kankurit is adorned with Japanese designer Akira Minagawa's charming Kesäkukka pattern, offering his interpretation of the lush imagination flower blooming in nature and streets. Appropriate, since the word "kesäkukka" is Finnish for the summer flower. The napkin is made of washed European linen, a carefree material with a naturally laid-back appearance that is ideal for rustic modern table settings. It is not necessary to iron the linen napkin – small wrinkles and creases give it a relaxed, natural look. However, if you prefer a neater style, you can iron the napkin with linen adjustments.

Thanks to its handy size, machine-washable material, delicate pattern and lightweight feel, the Kesäkukka napkin is very versatile: in addition to table settings, it also serves as a face towel in the bathroom or on trips. The linen napkin is woven at the Lapuan Kankurit weaving mill in Finland.

Akira Minagawa

Akira Minagawa (b. 1967) is a Japanese textile designer and illustrator, best known as the founder of the minä perhonen design company. In addition to his own brand, Minagawa has also designed textiles for Kvadrat of Denmark and Klippan of Sweden, among others.

Founded in 1995, minä perhonen manufactures clothing and upholstery fabrics with naive and imaginative prints as well as various design items. The brand name, minä perhonen, is Finnish for “I butterfly”. According to Minagawa, who has named Finland as one of his favourite countries, the name was chosen simply by flicking through a dictionary: “minä” stands for the designer himself, and the word “perhonen”, added later to the name, is a reference to the myriad of patterns adorning a butterfly’s wings – Minagawa’s idea has always been to create fabrics as beautiful and diverse as the wings of a butterfly.
