The Tulip table by Eero Saarinen is one if the most well-known pieces of Finnish design. With a name inspired by the table’s one-legged structure that resembles a flower, Tulip is not only a side table but also an eye-catching design icon.
The table has a round top made of white Arabesco marble characterised by dark grey veins and sometimes random green veins – due to the natural material, each top's hue, veining and marks are unique. The table top is coated with protective polyester that also gives the top a beautiful satin finish.
Saarinen designed the Tulip table in 1957 for the American furniture manufacturer Knoll. The table is part of Saarinen’s Pedestal collection that consists of single-legged furniture created as a protest to the ”ugly, confusing, unrestful world” of traditional furniture legs. The iconic collection exudes an air of mid-century modernism that, to this day, feels fresh and original.
