Description

Ferm Living's Sala Piece is a sculptural wooden table that highlights the rich grain of Douglas fir and the tactile essence of craftsmanship. The checkerboard-like surface, composed of individual wooden blocks, creates a bold visual rhythm where traditional woodworking meets modern design. Sala Piece works equally well as a side table in a living space or as a pedestal for a plant or lamp.

The Ferm Living x Utzon – Can Lis collection draws inspiration from Can Lis, the Mallorca residence of Danish architect Jørn Utzon, often described as one of the finest private homes of the 20th century. The building's distinctive fusion of natural elements and geometric forms is echoed throughout the collection, created in collaboration with the Utzon Center, which carries on the architect's legacy.

Jørn Utzon

Jørn Utzon (1918-2008) was a Danish architect, best known for designing the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Utzon attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from where he gratuated in 1942. During the following years he worked also at Alvar Aalto's office, learning more about functionalism and aesthetics. Utzon won the architecture competition for Sydney Opera House in 1957.

Utzon often referred to the Swedish architect Erik Gunnar Asplund along with Alvar Aalto and Frank Lloyd Wright as his architectural kin. After travelling through Europe, the United States and Mexico, Utzon established his own practice in Copenhagen, working mainly as an architect throughout the world. In 2003, he received the Pritzker Prize, architecture's highest honor.
