Modern rugs and designer carpets in Scandinavian style

Rugs and carpets protect the floor from scratches, improve the rooms’ acoustics and feel soft and warm under the feet. Our carefully curated selection consists of modern carpets and designer rugs from Finland, Scandinavia and further away – we have what you are looking for, be it a traditional hand-woven rag rug, a runner rug for the hallway, a round or geometric rug, an oriental kilim rug or a kids’ rug for the nursery. Our beautiful range includes Finnish rugs by Woodnotes and Finarte, well-known Pappelina rugs from Sweden and elegant ferm LIVING rugs from Denmark.

How to choose the right size rug?

A rug helps to frame the floor into a visually clean and functionally coherent whole. Make sure to choose a rug that is large enough – a typical mistake is to choose a rug that is too small. In a dining area, the dining table and all chairs should fit on the rug all the time; in the living room, the rug should ideally reach under the edge of the sofa; and in the hallway, the runner rug should cover most of the length of the floor area. Large rugs come into their own especially in living rooms and dining areas, and narrow runner rugs are best suited for hallways and kitchens. As for the bedroom, you can choose either one large rug or place runner rugs on both sides of the bed, depending on the size of the room and the height of the bed.

In terms of shape, a rectangular rug works in almost any space, while round rugs go well together with curved rooms and furniture. A round or asymmetrical rug also makes an eye-catching focal point of the room.

How to choose the right rug material?

Some of the most common rug materials include natural materials such as cotton, wool, paper yarn, sisal and jute, as well as synthetic materials including polyamide and plastic yarn. Choose the material according to the space where the rug will be used: select easily cleanable materials for spaces prone to dirt, and strong materials for spaces prone to heavy use.

Wool rugs, shaggy rugs, high pile carpets and delicate materials in general are ideal for living rooms, bedrooms and lounge areas, and wool’s natural ability to resist stains makes it a practical and long-lasting choice. A good option for the kitchen, particularly for families with children, is an easily washable cotton rug or a plastic rug, as stains can often be just wiped away. Hardwearing jute and sisal rugs are particularly well suited for entryways or achieving a rustic feel, and dirt-repellent paper yarn rugs are a natural and allergy-friendly choice for basically any room. For a patio or balcony, it’s best to choose an outdoor rug that has been designed to withstand the weather, and for the bathroom, opt for a nice bath rug of your choice.

How to select the style of my new rug?

When it comes to the style of your new rug or carpet, start by thinking about what kind of rug would best complement the current decor and its colour and material palette. Brightly coloured or boldly patterned rugs are perfect for adding a lively vibe to the space and updating the whole feel of the room – just keep in mind that rich patterns often require some empty space around them. If you’re aiming for peace and serenity instead, you might want to opt for monochrome rugs or subtle palettes and patterns. This doesn’t mean that the rug should strictly match the colours and style of the decor – often, some contrasts actually add to the coherence. Also, pay attention to how the hues of the rug match the colours of your floor and walls.
