Singles’ Day 2026: A day all about you
November is often a dark, cold and busy month – which makes it perhaps the best time of year to put yourself first. Celebrated every year on 11/11, Singles’ Day offers the perfect excuse: the day is dedicated to treating yourself and making your own wishes come true. As the story goes, Singles’ Day began in the 1990s at Nanjing University, where Chinese students started celebrating 11 November as a day for single people – a kind of counterbalance to the often very couple-centric, romance-filled Valentine’s Day. In 2009, the e-commerce giant Alibaba turned it into a shopping day, and within a few years Singles’ Day had grown into one of the world’s biggest shopping events. Today, it’s celebrated with special offers all around the world.
Singles’ Day: Many ways to treat yourself
Over the years, the focus of Singles’ Day has shifted from being single to appreciating yourself. Whatever your relationship status, the day is for anyone who wants to celebrate themselves. For some, treating yourself means candles and cosmetics; for others, it’s a new kitchen knife, a laundry basket or another practical everyday essential.
Many people also use Singles’ Day to buy something more special they’ve been dreaming of for a long time: a striking designer lamp, a new armchair for a reading nook or a plush rug in a shade they love.
