FDB Møbler: A pioneer of democratic design
The timeless furniture of FDB Møbler is rooted in the design classics created by Denmark’s consumer cooperative, FDB. Founded in 1940, FDB set out to make high-quality, functional design accessible to everyone. By embracing industrial production, they succeeded in crafting furniture that was both beautifully made and reasonably priced – and soon became a staple in Danish homes.
Some of the most iconic names behind these beloved designs include Børge Mogensen and Poul M. Volther, whose chairs, tables and storage pieces have become enduring symbols of Scandinavian design.
From mid-century gems to modern must-haves
Although FDB Møbler closed its doors in 1980, the brand was given a second life in 2013 when Danish retailer Coop relaunched it. Since then, the collection has grown to include both faithful reissues of mid-century masterpieces and contemporary designs inspired by the originals.
Over the years, FDB Møbler has collaborated with some of Denmark’s most renowned designers, helping to shape the golden age of Danish furniture. Today, the brand's best-known pieces include Børge Mogensen’s functional creations, the iconic J46 chair by Poul M. Volther, and Jørgen Bækmark’s inviting J82 lounge chair.
