Joutsen, founded in 1936, is a Finnish family business known for its high-quality down products. The down comforters, pillows and other Joutsen products are made from the cleanest down in the world: the materials go through a meticulous thermal treatment and double dust removal process, resulting in 100% dust-free down filling with no allergenic ingredients or synthetic fibres. Therefore, the products have been granted the ’Allergy Label’ by the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation.

Joutsen – down products crafted with Finnish quality
Founded in 1936, Joutsen is a Finnish family business whose story begins – where else but – in a sauna. When Marius Pedersen watched his wife Saima wash down feathers in a sauna cauldron, the idea of industrial feather cleaning was born. A humble hobby grew into a thriving company that employed the whole family, and the swan – a symbol of purity and Nordic nature – was chosen as its emblem.
Today, Joutsen is proudly run by the fourth generation of the same family.

Joutsen’s down products have been a staple of Finnish homes for decades, and are highly appreciated internationally, too. Their renowned quality is based on carefully selected raw materials and decades of in-house expertise. Every duvet and pillow is made in Finland at Joutsen’s own factory in Riihimäki.
Clean, allergy-friendly and fully traceable down
All down used by Joutsen is ethically sourced as a by-product of food production from trusted farms in EU countries: duck down comes from France and Spain, goose down from Poland and Germany, and some products also include Finnish goose down or hand-collected eiderdown after nesting season. The down is certified by Downpass, RDS and Duntrack – and every single batch is traceable back to the farm of origin.
The down is cleaned in Joutsen’s own multi-step Joutsen Down System, where it is washed with water and hot air, completely free from harmful chemicals. This process removes dust, fat and impurities, resulting in exceptionally clean, lightweight down with outstanding insulation. All Joutsen duvets and pillows carry the Allergy Label awarded by the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation – proof of their safety even for the most sensitive users.
