
Markku Salo
Markku Salo (b. 1954) is a Finnish designer and glass artist who graduated in industrial design from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 1979. He began his career at the Nuutajärvi Glass Factory, where he was hired by Oiva Toikka despite having no previous experience working with glass. In addition to his work as a glass artist, Salo has also made a name for himself as a graphic designer, ceramicist and installation artist.
Salo runs his own gallery in Nuutajärvi, where he showcases his unique, handcrafted glass artworks. Over the years, he has received several notable awards, including the State Prize for Design in 1989 and the Georg Jensen Prize in 1990. His works are included in the collections of both Finnish and international museums, such as the Helsinki City Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, and the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York.
