Paolo Lomazzi
Paolo Lomazzi (b. 1936) is an Italian architect and designer, best known for his long-standing collaboration with Jonathan De Pas and Donato D’Urbino. He co-founded the De Pas, D’Urbino & Lomazzi (DDL) studio in 1966, after previously working in his own design studios in Milan. The studio’s breakthrough product was the Blow chair, introduced in 1967 – the first mass-produced inflatable armchair made of PVC plastic. Lomazzi’s work is closely linked to the Italian Radical Design movement, which embraced new materials and technologies with an experimental, open-minded approach.
After De Pas’s death in 1991, Lomazzi continued collaborating with D’Urbino until 2017. Since then, he has pursued an independent career while also teaching design at several Italian universities.
