Holmegaard

The Danish glassworks Holmegaard Glasværk is one of the best-known and longest-running glass manufacturers in the Nordic region. Holmegaard was founded in 1825 by Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe, who resolutely continued the project originally initiated by her late husband, Count Christian Danneskiold-Samsøe. Built in the Holmegaard bog area, the glassworks initially produced only green bottles, but over time the range gradually expanded to include both functional glassware and artistic glass pieces.

In the 20th century, Holmegaard began collaborating with prominent designers. The first design partnership resulted in a wine glass collection designed by Svend Hammershøi and launched in 1906. The company’s first in-house designer was Jacob E. Bang, who joined in 1928, and in the 1940s, designer Per Lütken became part of the team, creating more than 3,000 glass objects. Since 1985, Holmegaard has been part of the Danish Rosendahl Design Group.
