Donato D'Urbino

Donato D’Urbino (b. 1935) is an Italian architect and designer, best known as a pioneer in furniture and industrial design. In 1966, he co-founded the De Pas, D’Urbino & Lomazzi studio (DDL) together with Jonathan De Pas and Paolo Lomazzi. The studio became one of the key names in the Italian Radical Design movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Its breakthrough product was the Blow armchair – the first mass-produced inflatable chair made of PVC plastic.

After De Pas’s death in 1991, D’Urbino continued his design work with Lomazzi under the name D’Urbino Lomazzi. His work has received several international accolades, including the Compasso d’Oro award as well as BIO and Design Award honours.
