The Aalto chair 69 is one of Alvar Aalto's favourite dining chairs. It features his signature L-leg and a wider seat base and backrest that provide superior stability. The chair was originally designed for the Viipuri Municipal Library. In 1927 Aalto won the design competition for the library, and the building was inaugurated in 1935. In addition to drawing the library, he also designed its interior, lights and furniture, including the chair 69.
The colours of the chair 69 are borrowed from Aalto’s Paimio Sanatorium: the yellow of the floors, the green of the walls, and the orange, white and black of the furniture.
