Description

Sika-Design’s Wengler chair was designed in 1902 by Robert Wengler, who was later appointed as a wicker maker to the Danish Crown. Woven of Manau and Tohiti rattan, the Wengler chair has an airy, classic form language and calm, organic colours. Due to its lightweight design, the Wengler chair can be used both as an armchair or dining chair. The chair is part of Sika-Design’s Icons collection that features rattan classics from some of the most talented designers of the 20th century.

Robert Wengler was a German craftsman who specialized in wicker furniture, and was appointed as a wicker maker to the Danish Crown in 1914. Wengler started his career with European materials, until he discovered rattan, which was still a new and exotic material in the early 20th century. Wengler is considered as a pioneer and the most skillful wicker maker in Denmark, and his work influenced many iconic Danish designers, such as Arne Jacobsen, Viggo Boesen, Nanna & Jørgen Ditzel and Kay Bojesen.
