Georg Jensen’s Ambience candleholder is a minimalist design piece by Magnus Stephensen from the mid-20th century. Its minimalist appearance has influences from Japan, where Stephensen spent several years studying. Despite its simple shape, Ambience is also a powerful, dramatic object. The candleholder is made of mirror-polished stainless steel and it goes together with pillar candles.

Magnus Stephensen

Danish designer Magnus Stephensen (1903-1984) was famous for his refined, unornamental style which often had references to Japanese design. Stephensen graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1931. In his early career he focused on architecture, but later he designed many smaller objects and silverware for Danish brands such as Kay Bojesen, Georg Jensen and Royal Copenhagen. Stephensen was awarded several times at the Milan Triennale, and in 1948 he received the Eckersberg Medal.
