Gubi | Wall lamps

Gubi Olsen and his wife Lisbeth Olsen founded Gubi in 1967. The company has been based since the beginning on product design and development. Over the years, the two designers have created a large collection of upholstered furniture and a furniture fabric, called Holmens Klæde.

The Gubi family has now re-established a creative platform for the development of innovative, functional design with global market appeal, which has brought Gubi back to the forefront of the Danish design world. With this new foundation firmly in place, strategy is now focused on the development of unique design icons.

Since 1967, Gubi’s core philosophy has been to create timeless designs, with aesthetics, innovation, functionality and quality as guiding principles. Gubi’s many new designs are developed partly in cooperation with designers who have previously left their mark on Gubi products and partly in association with a number of new designers who, in turn, will add new stories to the Gubi saga.

Currently, Gubi is concentrating on building a classic collection of design icons from 1930 to the present. The collection covers both a wide geographical area and timeline, but the focus is always on the same core values, so there is a consistent theme running through the entire collection. Gubi’s classics include designs by Barba Corsini, Greta Magnusson Grossman and Mathieu Matégot.

Scandinavian wall lamps create a homely atmosphere

A wall lamp can cast soft mood lighting, a focused spotlight, or bright light for an entire room. Wall lights are needed for various spaces and purposes. A sculptural wall lamp can create ambience in a living room, light up a desk in an office, or be ideal for bedtime reading. Wall lights are also wonderful outside, for example when fixed to the wall of a building – our range of outdoor lamps includes many outdoor wall lamps suitable for exterior use. We also have many different wall lights for kids.

The pleasure of a wall lamp often lies in reflection: light is reflected into a room from a wall and ceiling. A lit wall makes a room feel much more spacious and airy. Soft, glare-free light is ideal as mood lighting or in addition to ceiling lights. On the other hand, you can direct the beam of a bright spotlight where you wish: at a desk, an armchair or a picture hung on a wall. Wall lamps can also have a host of useful features – such as an adjustable arm, directable shade or dimmer light switch – which you can use to change the quality of the light. Flush-mounted lamps and sconce lights installed on walls make wonderful alternatives if you are seeking a minimalist appearance and compact form in a wall lamp.

Finnish Design Shop has a wide selection of wall lamps from different decades of Scandinavian design, as well as jewels of international lighting design. Cornerstones of our collection include the wall lamps designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek, classic lamps by the Danish Louis Poulsen, and award-winning lights by the Italian Artemide Group. Our collection features impressive sculptural models and minimalist, subdued wall light fixtures in a range of colours and high-quality materials including glass, brass, steel and ceramics.
