Description

The Heila table lamp by Doctor Design belongs to the same lighting family with Helmat and Vuolle lamps. Like its relatives, Heila creates a soft yet effective light. The shade of the lamp is a free hanging spiral, which swings lightly by the effect of a touch or movements of the air. The ethereal table lamp is easy to envision in both private and public settings, gently illuminating the space on a windowsill or on top of a sideboard or side table.

The textile of the shade can be removed for cleaning and ironing.

Petri Vainio

Petri Vainio (born 1964) is a Finnish interior architect and designer who graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 1992. He is also the founder of Doctor Design, a brand especially known for its lighting fixtures based on a freely hanging textile spiral that filters the light softly and pleasantly. In addition to illuminating private homes, the ethereal spirals are ideal for light art – Vainio's luminaires can be admired in numerous public spaces in Finland, such as the Jyväskylä Art Museum, the Heureka Science Center in Vantaa and the Amos Rex Art Museum in Helsinki.

While perhaps best known for the lamp designs for his own company, Vainio has also collaborated with the brand Showroom Finland, among others. An expert in veneer pressing techniques, he has received praise for his organically shaped plywood objects, whose forms, at first sight, make them seem more like plastic than bent wood. Vainio has stated plywood as one of his favourite materials.
