SAARA RENVALL

The reflecting flower broach that is available at FinnishDesignShop will possibly be followed by something similar for boys. Renvall has to see if her little production company called Sunnuntai Factory will get things rolling. Sunnuntai Factory has a good subcontracting network and her family helps by putting the pieces together.

The first object that Saara Renvall has ever given form to was a little cottage that she built with her father when she was in elementary school. The cottage was built in their backyard. At school in Kouvola the first assignment was to design a cupboard of surprises. Renvall’s cupboard was the shape of a spruce tree.

Surprises are a big part of her design also today. Renvall likes to try out different materials. When asking about her favourites she replies that like a cook that doesn’t want to do everything using only potatoes, she also likes to make desserts, main courses and sweets. You have to have the idea and use the material to realize it, not vice versa.
