TOP 5: The most inspiring new products

The month of May gave signs of upcoming summer and spoiled us with adorable colors. Finnish Design Shop welcomed a fine selection of updated favorites, limited editions as well as an interesting new brand. Get inspired by the newcomers of the season!

1. HAY: Colour Crate

HAY's beloved, industrial-styled containers have an updated look – and renewed material! The redesigned Color Crates are made from 100% recycled polypropylene. Another good news is that all the sizes can be conveniently stacked together. Choose your favorite color from the wide color palette or mix and match the delicious shades as you like!

2. Arabia: Fishing Moomin mug

The Moomin summer mug of 2022 is called Fishing, and its pastel-hued illustration shows the Moomin family and friends doing just that. Moomin mug illustrator Tove Slotte has delved into the Moomin archives to pick and mix characters from three separate comic strip stories, originally from the 1950s, to create a collage that continues the story of the previous Moomin summer mugs. As usual, the limited edition summer mug is only available during the summer of 2022.

3. Phaidon: Vegan at Home

Written by Icelandic chef Solla Eiríksdóttir, Phaidon's Vegan at Home cookbook serves all the best tips and tricks for vegan cooking in the form of 145 delicious recipes with ideas for both quick everyday lunches and dishes for special occasions. In addition, the book covers vegan staples like nut milks and tofu. What we love the most, though, are the oh-so-appetizing photographs whose deliberate minimalism is a treat not only for the taste buds but also for the eyes.

4. Kay Bojesen: Year Bird 2022 Poppy

Kay Bojesen's beloved wooden Songbirds have received a new feathered friend in their flock: Poppy the Year Bird 2022. Poppy is not just any avian, but a special, limited edition created specifically for the year 2022, and it features the words “Kay Bojesen Design” and the year 2022 engraved on its tail – Poppy would make the perfect gift for someone graduating or getting married, or anyone for whom the year 2022 has been special in some way.

Slightly smaller than the classic Songbirds, Poppy’s color scheme is earthy but dark: the bird is painted in deep burgundy, complemented by a red head and an orange beak. The shades were inspired by Kay Bojesen himself, and are meant to remind us of the importance of focus and presence: to be able to create something new, one must be fully present in the moment.

5. Tikau: Doggy basket dog bed

One of Finnish Design Shop’s latest brand additions is the Finnish Tikau, which has strived to be a pioneer of responsible production ever since 2008. The brand is best known for its rugs and banana fiber baskets made in India.

One of our Tikau faves is the adorable Doggy basket made in Southern India using the aforementioned banana fiber. Made from dead banana leaves, the material is eco-friendly, free of chemicals, and water-resistant – so you don’t need to worry about your doggo’s wet paws after a walk in the summer rain. And what's best, the natural look of the basket is sure to please the eyes of the dog owner, too!
