Theresa Rand: My best Christmas gift ideas

Designer Theresa Rand found Christmas gifts from Finnish Design Shop’s selection, which are sure to delight anyone fond of classic pieces. She also chose contemporary design perfect for coffee aficionados.

Designer Theresa Rand
Theresa Rand was born in Cologne and lives currently in Copenhagen. Her work for Menu includes the popular Échasse vases and Turning Tables.

Theresa Rand, do you have any Christmas traditions?
“My husband and I celebrate Christmas alternatively in Denmark and Germany. This year it’s my family’s turn, and we will travel to Germany for the holidays. Even though I love celebrating Christmas in Denmark, too, I am really looking forward to seeing my German family and old friends.”

Theresa Rand's Christmas gift picks:

Mantis table lamp

1. For design lovers

“You can never have enough lamps at home during wintertime in Scandinavia. It gets dark quite early around Christmas, and it helps a lot to have lamps, which provide warm and cozy light. German designer Bernard Schottlander created the Mantis lighting series in the early 1950s, and the lamps have been a design icon ever since.”

Stoff candleholder

2. For decorators

“Another German designer and architect, Werner Stoff, designed this timeless piece for Nagel in the 1960s after he met the owner of the company, Hans Nagel, in my hometown Cologne in Germany. This beautiful Stoff candleholder can be combined and stacked endlessly. They look fantastic on any Christmas dinner table.”

Georg Jensen HK pitcher

3. For mother

“Georg Jensen's iconic HK pitcher was designed by the Danish designer Henning Koppel in the early 50s. I really like pieces, which are decorative due to their sculptural shape, so they make sense even when they are not in use. There is probably no pitcher more festive than this one, which makes it perfect for the holiday season.”

Menu Échasse bowl

4. For family

“Some of my family members will probably receive the Échasse bowl, which I designed for Menu. The big Échasse bowl is perfect as a fruit bowl, but it can also be used for Christmas decorations, to display some branches, candles or a wreath.”

Menu Collar coffee grinder

5. For coffee addicts

“I don’t drink much coffee myself, but I love the smell and the ritual of brewing and enjoying a good cup of coffee. There are many automatic coffee grinders on the market, but not as beautiful as Menu's manual Collar grinder, which emphasizes the act of preparing the coffee and taking a break.”
