Kristiina Lassus’ rug collection is inspired by travel, far-off cultures and traditions, love for different materials, color, and nature. From a passion for ancient traditional handicraft but with a modern insight, it is devised to furnish contemporary spaces, whether modern or classic, in the city and country. Durries are traditional Indian floor-coverings with a texture similar to a kelim. The name Durrie derives from a Hindu/Urdu word and means woven cotton rug or mat. Apart from the traditional cotton, wool is also used in making durries. These flat weaves are hand woven in various different qualities, styles and colours. The weaving tehcnique is relatively fast and the material consumption lesser than in other types of carpets. This makes the Durrie one of the more economical floor coverings. They are light-weight, practical and beautiful - almost like thick floor textiles or spreads - and used widely all over India from farmers' homes to kings' palaces, in varying degrees of quality. Kristiina Lassus durries are made of mill spun Indian wool and jute. The rugs are produced in limited series. No child labor has been used in the creation (Rug mark and Kaleem certificates). The terracotta and natural jute colored Ksoo rug is 65% wool and 35% jute with binding edges.
