Tuohi is Finnish language and means bark of the birch wood. There is a long tradition of making different utility articles of birch bark in Finland. Designer Tapio Anttila has been inspired by this tradition combined with the latest production technology. Birch is a living organic material and structure, the tones and specific patterns being different in every tree trunk. This makes each Tuohi bowl unique. The products are pressed plywood, surfaces selected bark of birch. The multifunctional Tuohi trays received the DESIGN PLUS AWARD at the Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt in February 2008. The trays can be used for serving as well as decorational objects.
