Mikko Paakkanen
Mikko Paakkanen (b. 1975) is a Finnish furniture designer who studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, where he is now a teacher in the Master’s program. Originally educated as a carpenter, he is fond of materials of fine quality and customized manufacturing methods. As years went forward, Mikko Pakkanen understood that his true interests lie in inventing new solutions and solving problems.
By combining these two talents in his work today, Mikko Paakkanen can see things from both the designer’s and the carpenter’s point of view. In Finland the designer has also worked as interior architect, mainly as a set designer in multidisciplinary domains like music videos and art projects. One of Mikko Paakkanen’s most popular designs is the Nietos chair created for Avarte. Nietos, a Finnish word which means snowdrift, is a sleek, throne-like armchair made from laminated birch and available in different colours.
