Mai Ohta

The Japanese fashion designer Mai Ohta came to Finland to finish her Master’s degree at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki. After graduating she worked as a pattern maker for Hanna Sarén, a Finnish fashion brand, and later as a bag designer at Marimekko. In 2011 she established her own design brand MAIOHTA DESIGN still continuing her cooperation with Marimekko. Ohta’s design is inspired by the nature: deep-sea fish and the exotic flowers and animals in the Amazon rainforest. She likes colors and she combines different patterns casually. In addition to fashion design she also works as an illustrator.
